I think a quality 2 pole motor is ideal for speed runs(Lehner, for instance). Sensors are nice for startup - not a factor for top speed.

IIRC, the 2 pole rpm limit is +/-150k.....not sure why that number comes to mind, but I don't think you will be ESC limited for rpms on a 2 pole motor(magnet limited, perhaps). :-)

Pretty sure the truck could get up that rock with minor changes. Weighted front tires helps for sure. Approaching the rock from an angle to allow one of the back tires to get up on it will help...

As long as the motor wires are of the cuttable variety, then yes - I would cut the thinner wire(assuming both wires are of similar quality, strand count of course).

Cut the wire with the most resistance shortest - if the ESC wires are 12g and the motor wires are 10g, for example, make the ESC(thinner) wires shorter.

Mounting the BEC every time you wanna play is the only issue I see. Between the BEC, the servo lead and the series harness, there will be a bit of fumbling around required to keep everything secure...

With 4s and the stock tranny and diffs, I think you could pretty easily get away with using one of the plastic sliders that go from diff to wheel.
